Vaccinations and Malaria Medication
While we were in South Africa we got our yellow fever and typhoid vaccinations. We had so much to do before we left we decided we would wait until we got to South Africa to take care of this. We had quite an interesting outing. Health care is so different in South Africa. If you need medicine you can simply go to the pharmacy and talk to a pharmacist. You don't need a doctor's visit or prescription. You just stand in line, wait your turn, explain you ailment and, WELLAH, they get you all situated and squared away. Refreshingly different in some ways.
The kids did so great and in keeping with Sponsler tradition, a trip to the ice cream parlor followed our family field trip to the Nelspruit Medical Clinic/Pharmacy. Thankfully no one but Seth cried while getting their shots and he only cried as he paid the bill on the way out the door. Hahaha!
Truthfully, getting our malaria medications and our vaccinations in South Africa we saved almost $900. I am not kidding. AND it took less time for Seth and I AND our four children to go through the entire process (to get our vaccinations, stand in line at the pharmacy, talk to a pharmacist, get our Malaria medications, pay and get back in the car) then it has EVER taken me to stand in line at the Sonora WalMart pharmacy waiting for just ONE simple prescription to be filled.
Another sweet thing happened. The pharmacist that was helping me told me he was moving to California. We began to talk and share a bit about our lives. He and his wife are moving to Redding to work at a Rite Aid Pharmacy and attend Bethel Church. I even volunteered my sister and Gabe to host them if they needed a place to stay. Sarah and Gabe are finding about this as this read this now... I think that was a Divine Appointment. Amazing!
