A New Country And New Friends

Wow, we made it to Sri Lanka! AND We all survived our first all-nighter in the Malasyia airport. We  are tired, smelly,  and not quite sure what is going to happen next. We are, however, excited and a little nervous to meet Pastor Udi and his wife, whom we have never met before. It is going to be a great adventure.

Our family in the airport in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

We spent a few hours at one of Pastor Udi's (our Sri Lankan contact) friend's house. We left some of our extra bags, rested  a bit, and spent a little time getting to know each other.  After a couple of hours we left for the train station to get tickets for our journey to the northern part of Sri Lanka, to Vavuniya where the Children's home that were visiting is located.

Hannah and Jonathan enjoying some down time in Colombo before our journey north.

One of the great joys of traveling is to see the different geography in each country.  A long train ride provides the opportunity to see a lot of land we normally wouldn't get to see. We love getting out of the big cities and into the villages and smaller towns, where the pace is slower and we can see things that sometimes get lost in the busy pace found in a bigger city.

The first 24 hours in Sri Lanka were VERY interesting! When we went to get train tickets, no train was available, so we decided (as it was the only option we had left) to take a bus ride instead. The boys and I sat in one seat  and the girls sat in one seat.  The bus was like the old school buses from the sixties.  The ride was filled with LOUD music, lots of  dirt and dust, sweltering heat, about twice as many people on the bus as there should have been (according to U.S. standards....LOL) !

Pastor Udi's wife, Niti, and a beautiful German woman, Dagmar, who was also  visiting the children's home.

Our only complaint about this part of our trip?  It was way too short.
